North Korean leader concludes critical summit, orders bolstering of "war deterrent"

(MENAFN) North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has concluded a major meeting with top military leaders, ordering a boost in the country's defense capabilities.

Kim presided over the three-day Enlarged Meeting of the 8th Central Military Commission, according to official KCNA media on Friday.

Top representatives, it said, "approved an important issue of providing a military guarantee for further strengthening the country's war deterrent".

The high-level meeting followed the recent flexing of US and South Korean muscles, which included their first joint war drills in four years.

North Korea made a rare reference of changing its war plans during the summit, saying it had agreed to strengthen the operational tasks of its frontline forces with "an important military action plan."

Kim urged his whole army to "go all out" in carrying out plans to strengthen the nation's military might and solidify “powerful self-defense capabilities for overwhelming any hostile forces and thus reliably protect the dignity of the great country”.
