Doha: According to the General Authority of customs Monthly newsletter, the Abu Samra border serviced 62,628 vehicles entering and exiting Qatar during the Eid Al Fitr celebrations.

In the newsletter, Yousef Ahmad Alhammadi, Assistant Director of Land Customs Administration at the GAC, said:“Customs and the Abu Samra port permanent committee work at the same Port. The goal is to maintain continuous cooperation and coordination between them and other authorities to ensure work progress and facilitate procedures at the Port.

“The Port witnessed a large movement of travellers during Eid Al Fitr holiday — 62,628 vehicles entered and exited the country.” The Land Customs Administration of the GAC is one of the important ports in the country that specialises in facilitating the entry of travellers and commercial and personal shipments through the country's land port.

Last year, about 17,000 passengers and 6,300 vehicles reportedly crossed the Abu Samra border, according to Customs officials. The trade and travel between Qatar and Saudi Arabia through the land crossing resumed in early 2021 after the Al Ula Declaration. The Customs official also urged travellers to register the customs declaration online to facilitate quick and easy procedure at the Port.

Besides, he noted that the GAC is equipped with world-class X-ray inspection devices to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of passengers and commercial cargo.

Last month, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced that those coming to Qatar through the Abu Samra border can now avail of the required insurance policy online.

In a statement posted on social media, the MoI said that“to simplify procedures for those coming to the State of Qatar through the Abu Samra border in their vehicles, they can now get the required insurance policy online through the Qatari Unified Bureau Insurance (QUBI) website.”

While applying online saves more time, insurance policies will still be issued on the counters at the border if the traveller wishes to get it manually, the MoI stated.
