(MENAFN) According to a senior government official, the Bangladeshi government would seek global bids for the building of the country's first subway project in Dhaka.
The tendering process for metro rail packages in Dhaka is nearing completion, according to M.A.N. Siddique, managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, a Bangladeshi state-owned corporation established to install metro rail lines throughout Dhaka.
"The tender for constructing several packages will be floated soon," he highlighted.
The official raised hopes that the building of the 31.24-kilometer subway will begin within the next several months.
The nation's first underground metro rail line, officially known as Mass Rapid Transit Line 1 or MRT Line 1, runs from Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Dhaka's central Kamalapur train station via the new Purbachal township on the suburbs of Dhaka.
The project's cost is anticipated to be around 520 billion taka (USD5.84 billion).
