Swedish premier discusses with Turkey for NATO membership


(MENAFN) On Monday, the Swedish premier stated that discussions with Turkey on Sweden’s participation to NATO is going to take some extra time.

Magdalena Andersson stated to Swedish official news agency TT that her conference with Turkish Leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan was “good and positive.”

Andersson stated that “Sweden and Finland will continue bilateral and tripartite negotiations with Turkiye in the near future but these will take some time.”

Emphasizing that she was hoping to the future discussions with Ankara, Andersson stated that Sweden is one of the first nations that categorized the PKK as terrorists.

Sweden and Finland previously proposed to participate in NATO last week -- a result encouraged by Russia's attack on Ukraine, which started on Feb. 24.
