Doha: Minister of Sports and Youth Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali honoured the winning teams of the 14th Schools Robotics Championship, at the conclusion of the championship activities yesterday.

Ahmed Bin Hanbal Secondary School for Boys won the first place in the championship, while Ali Bin Abi Talib Preparatory School for Boys won the second place, and Hassan Bin Thabet Secondary School for Boys won the third place.

Qatar Scientific Club organised the 14th Schools Robotics Championship on May 10 and 11 at Lusail Sports Arena, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and with the support and guidance of the Ministry of Sports and Youth.

The closing ceremony was attended by President of Arab Society for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Ismail Yassin, Executive Director of Qatar Scientific Club Eng Rashid Al Rahimi, representatives from schools and students. The championship lasted for two days, during which the participating students presented their pioneering research projects that focused on many important topics and aimed at providing solutions that address the most important issues and problems facing our society in many fields.

The students of Al Ghuwayriyah Primary School for Girls presented their research project on how to safely charge and recycle electronic devices.

The girl students participating in the research worked on the research project nearly two months, with the support of teachers supervising the research to participate in the Championship.

Yarmouk Preparatory School for Boys also participated in the sumo competition, where the students designed and programmed a fencing robot to fight with another robot.

The students of Al Razi Preparatory School for Boys presented a research entitled Virtual Canteen to secure meals for school students, which aims to find an alternative to the school canteen to facilitate students' access to school meals during the school day, ensure access to the necessary healthy meals and reduce student crowding in the school canteen. Al Wakra Secondary School for Girls also participated in the Maker competition for the 'Smart Food Container' project, which is intended for obese children in Qatar.

The food container has been prepared so that the child's guardian puts the food inside the box, and the machine automatically calculates the number of calories in the food after converting it from grams to calories.

After the child eats the food, the guardian receives an Excel table in his mobile phone with the date and time of eating and the quantity taken from the box, which facilitates the arrangement of daily meals and their quantity for the child.
