Afghanistan - Too early to recognise Taliban govt, says Russia
KABUL (Pajhwok): Moscow and New Delhi think it is premature to recognise Afghanistan's new government, the deputy foreign minister of Russia says.
Sergey Vershinin told journalists in New Delhi:“Our positions are similar: They boil down to the fact that it is premature to talk about recognising the current government in Kabul.”
TASS quoted the diplomat as saying:“We expect the Afghan leadership to fulfill the obligations they have assumed, especially with regard to the inclusivity of the government and with regard to other measures, including in the human rights area.”
However, the deputy minister added, both countries supported the delivery of international assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
Vershinin claimed the two-decade presence of the Americans and their allies in Afghanistan had led to the current deplorable humanitarian crisis there.
