Singapore witness rise in chicken, vegetables costs

(MENAFN) In South East Asia people don’t get enough of the Singapore’s chief dish, chicken rice. This dish is considered among people to be the nation’s most desired meal. The owner of six chicken rice kiosks Daniel Tan formerly charged USD2.20 for a small-sized dish. However, the spread of coronavirus caused the elements of the dish to increase.

Chicken prices went up by 50 percent and vegetables increased within the double since January two years ago, reported Tan. The owner reported while standing near OK Chicken Rice kiosk in northern Singapore, “We've been absorbing the costs for a significant period of time.”

He added, “When the pandemic hit our first thought was this was a short-term emergency - six months, maybe a year - so we held [prices] for as long as we can because we were hoping for the whole thing to be over.”
