Ethiopia: Air raids leave 3 kids dead, 10 people wounded
(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Oct. 19 a UN spokesperson stated that it was calm but worrying in and around Mekelle, Ethiopia, after two reported air raids that left three kids dead and wounded 10 persons.
Farhan Haq, deputy spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres: "Local health workers report that three children were killed and one person injured in an airstrike on the outskirts of Mekelle yesterday (Monday)."
He said to reporters at a regular meeting: "a second airstrike in Mekelle town later in the day reportedly injured nine people and damaged houses and a nearby hotel."
Haq called escalation of the conflict alarming and noted the United Nations reminds all parties of their duties under world humanitarian law to safeguard citizens and civilian infrastructure.
