Cameroon: Five police officers detained over torture video
(MENAFN) A senior police officer stated that five Cameroonian police officers have been detained on suspicion of torture after a video was revealed displaying policemen torturing a prisoner.
The five police officers were arrested and appeared before a judge over the suspected torture, which occurred in the capital, Yaounde in the past week, according to the country’s police chief, Martin Mbarga Nguele.
The video, which went viral in Cameroon on Wednesday, displayed the police officers interrogating, attacking and then brutally hitting the prisoner suspected of theft.
The action was "inhuman", Nguele noted in a report made public on Saturday.
