Rawat, Tahir hit century breaks on second day

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Laxman Rawat of India and Haris Tahir of Pakistan bounced back spectacularly from less-than-perfect starts in their respective games in the Asian Snooker Championship at Al Messila Resort yesterday.
Both the players were one frame down in the morning session of the second day of the five-day championships, before they rallied with century breaks to claw their way back in and eventually land victories.
Rawat was up against Omar al-Ajlani of Saudi Arabia and the Indian, after losing the opening frame 36-66, stitched together a break of 109 in the next frame, before going 3-1 up and then winning 4-2.
In the same session, Tahir too had lost the first frame to Hong Kong's Cheung Ka Wai. But Tahir took the next frame armed with a break of 70 before a 108 strong break in the fourth frame set him up for a 4-1 win.
Among the Qatar players, Mohamed al-Binali, Ahmed Saif and Ali al-Obaidli notched up wins. Al-Obaidli blanked Lebanon's Firas Abboud 4-0, while al-Binali too won by the same margin in his game against Yemen's Ahmad Jabhan. Saif beat Afghanistan's Mohamed Rais Senzahi 4-1.
Defending champion Pankaj Advani picked up a 4-0 win over UAE's Abdulrahman Saif in the morning session, while Iran's Amir Sarkhosh beat Qatar's Bashar Abdulmajeed 4-0.
On the first day on Sunday, Sarkhosh and compatriot Siyavosh Mozayani missed their respective century breaks during the last session of the day.
There is USD3,500 for the player with the maximum break of 147, while the player with the highest break will receive USD1,000.
