Portuguese GDP expands 15.5 pct annually in Apr.-Jun. period
(MENAFN) On Friday, Jul. 30 figures issued by Portugal’s National Statistics Institute (INE) showed that the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) jumped 15.5 percent in the April-June period of this year in comparison with the very period of 2020.
"This evolution is influenced by the basis of comparison," since "the restrictions on economic activity as a result of the pandemic intensified in the second quarter of 2020 when there was an unprecedented contraction," said INE.
In comparison with the first three months of 2021, Portugal’s GDP expanded 4.9 percent, showing a clear economic revival with the gradual reopening of Portugal after the speeding up of coronavirus inoculation.
The statistical institute stressed that the nation’s GDP was positively increased by better "domestic demand" and the progress in "net foreign demand," with a more considerable rise in commodities exports.
