Turkey’s president reaffirms 2-state resolution to Cyprus matter
(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Jul. 20 the Turkish president stated that Turkey does not possess "another 50 years to waste" on the Cyprus matter, further saying that request for a peaceful solution of the issue are still on the table.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted at a ceremonial in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) marking the 47th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation: "a new negotiation process on Cyprus can only be carried out between the two states."
He stated: "the Greek Cypriots could not wake up from the ignorance of seeing Turkish Cypriots as a minority and rejecting a solution on the basis of equality," further saying that the Greek Cypriot side press for keeping its "maximalist, insincere and spoiled approach that is disconnected from reality."
The Turkish president added that the EU had pledged to shore up Turkish Cyprus in economic and administrative issues, but thus far couldn’t manage to do so.
