Iraq: Drone assault aims at airbase in Anbar
(MENAFN) The Iraqi and U.S. military stated that on Saturday, May. 7 an unknown drone assaulted a military airbase that includes U.S.-led coalition forces in Iraq's western province of Anbar.
The media office of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command stated in a brief report: "a booby-trapped drone went down at about 2:30 local time (23:30 GMT on Friday) at Ayn al-Asad Air Base in Anbar Province, without casualties."
An initial report posted on Twitter by Wayne Marotto, spokesperson of the international coalition forces in Iraq, said the airbase was assaulted this morning at 2:20 a.m. local time by an unmanned aerial surveillance system.
He noted that there were no reports of wounds in the assault, which caused damage to a hangar, emphasizing that the assault is under probe.
