IELTS or International English Language Test is a systematic test of English language expertise issued for study, employment, and immigration purposes to a country where English is the official language of communication. Is the IELTS Exam compulsory?

No, it's not compulsory. Many institutions do not even ask for IELTS scores. But remember that if you don't take IELTS, your chances of visa approval may reduce.

What are the different types of IELTS Exams?

There are two types of IELTS Exam:

IELTS Academic

The IELTS Academic exam is for those who want to pursue their higher education or seek professional registration in English-speaking countries.

It evaluates your English language skills at the academic level to inspect your worthiness to study at a university or work in a professional setting, like the doctor, lawyer, etc.

IELTS General

The IELTS General exam is for those who want to live or work in English-speaking countries.

It is also meant for those who want to apply for secondary education or seek professional work experience in countries like the U.K, U.S, Canada, and Australia.

Both Academic and General IELTS exam follows same module structure:

READING
LISTENING
SPEAKING
WRITING

The Speaking and Listening test are the same in both exams, but the Reading and Writing tests are different.

IELTS for UKVI

If you want to live, work or study in the United Kingdom, you will have to take IELTS for UKVI.
It can either be :
IELTS General Training for UKVI
IELTS Academic for UKVI
IELTS Life Skill A1, A2, or B1

While there is no change in the test's content and format, it is comparatively difficult as extra protocols are followed to check the test takers' authenticity.

IELTS Exam test report:

IELTS scores are from Band 1 to Band 9. Band 9 is the highest, and band 1 is the lowest. Band score 0 is given to those who did not appear for the test.

What is the age limit to appear for the IELTS exam?

IELTS can be taken by anyone above 16 years of age, irrespective of their nationality, and gender.

Note: Institutes are advised to consider an IELTS score report not older than two years.
