Iraqi military kill 2 IS extremists, detains 6 others


(MENAFN) The Iraqi military said in n a statement that two insurgents of the extremist Islamic State (IS) group were killed and six others were detained in an operation conducted by the Iraqi security forces on Saturday.

Commander of Anbar's Operations Command Nasir al-Ghannam said in a statement that an army force, supported by Iraqi aircraft, conducted an attack on an IS hideout near the town of al-Garma in the northwest the city of Fallujah, some 50 km west of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, leaving two IS activists dead.


Spokesman of the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi forces Yehia Rasool stated that in a separate attack, the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) conducted operations in the provinces of Kirkuk, Salahudin, Anbar, and Baghdad, which ended with six IS militants being detained, including an IS local leader.

The operations took place as the extremist IS insurgents have intensified their attacks on the security forces, including Hashd Shaabi forces, and civilians in the formerly IS-controlled Sunni provinces, resulting in the killing and hurting of dozens.
