Qatar- Turkish calligraphers' works on show at Katara virtual exhibition


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Six Turkish artists are showcasing their stunning calligraphic artworks at an exhibition launched online on Sunday by the Cultural Village Foundation —Katara in cooperation with Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center in Doha.

With the distinguished calligraphic pieces on display, 'Fine Arabic Calligraphy virtual group exhibition serves as a brilliant showcase of Arabic calligraphy as a treasure of Islamic and Arab culture which for centuries has won accolades far and wide for its uniqueness and artistic value.

The stunning works on show created by Hussein Oksuz, Sami Naddah, Abdurrahman Depeler, Seyit Ahmet Depeler, Abdurrahim Kahya and Sarqan Sail Al-Maz depict the distinct talent of each of the calligraphers in blending colours and lines in different calligraphic forms of Arabic scripts.

With expertise in various types of Arabic calligraphy, the artists provide visitors a closer look into the exquisite beauty of Arabic scripts used not only to express ideas but as an art form.

The works on display look elegant with the beautiful Arabic scripts executed in exquisite styles combined with elaborate decorative patterns and backgrounds that even art lovers who don't understand the Arabic language are able to appreciate and admire.

The pieces showcased highlight classical Arabic scripts such as Thuluth, Kufi, and Diwani in various creative combinations mixed with the spirit of contemporary art and the beauty of flowing colours.                   

'Fine Arabic Calligraphy is the 10th virtual exhibition presented by Katara as part of its continuous initiatives that contribute to revitalizing the visual art movement in Qatar and the creativity of local and international visual artists in the context of COVID-19 and preventing its spread. It follows 'Portraits featuring 29 works by seasoned Qatari portrait artist Eman Al Sulaiti. 

Previously, Katara also launched virtual exhibitions including'Femmes à la mode featuring 12 paintings by Indian artist Surabhi, 'Trace which showcases abstract paintings by Qatari artist Jawaher Al Mannai inspired by carvings found in archaelogical sites north of Qatar, 'The Unreachable Mirage displaying 20 paintings by Qatari artist Masoud Al Bulushi which depict portraits of women wearing traditional face covering, and 'Heritage featuring works by Hassan Bu Jassoum reflecting important aspects of Qatari culture and heritage.

Katara's ongoing virtual exhibitions also include 'Patches by Syrian contemporary artist Hadi Qasous showcasing 16 paintings which integrate calligraphy and stunning colours and shapes, 'Culture Collision by Hassan Taleb Alsalat which displays 14 interesting artworks that place famous cartoon characters in a the Gulf setting, 'The Result by Fatima Al Nuaimi which displays 19 acrylic on canvas works which reflect both unanticipated and foreseen results, and 'Al Taybeen by Ali Dasmal Al Kuwari which focuses on 17 realist paintings depicting traditional objects and Qatari architecture.
