São Paulo – Oman is set to resume international flights on October 1. The Sultanate's borders have been closed since March as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Newspaper The National quoted Oman's Supreme Committee as saying it will resume international flights to and from specific destinations next month based on health status information.

Although the administration would not provide further details, Oman will likely rank destinations on the basis of coronavirus numbers in each country.

A press release from Oman Airports confirmed that air traffic would resume in October. The authority advises travelers to observe safety measures wihch the Ministry of Health is about to announce, and to check for updates with their airlines of choice before traveling.

Oman Air also issued a press release addressing the reopening: 'We will continue to work closely with authorities and experts to ensure your safety and well-being at every stage of your journey,' it said.

Oman shut down its borders in March in an attempt to prevent Covid-19 from spreading.

Citizens and residents have been allowed to travel since then. Anyone entering Oman needs to observe a 14-day quarantine at home or in a hotel.

All foreign citizens are required to be heath-insured. Last July saw tenders floated to add PCR test solutions to Oman's airports, which could mean travelers will get tested on arrival.

Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways had announced earlier that it would fly to Oman's capital Muscat from Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, September 16, subject to government approval. That will probably only come to pass on October 1. Emirates is not flying to Oman at this time, but flights to Muscat can be booked on its website starting October 1.
