Weather: Temperature to touch 48C in UAE with 90% humidity


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The weather in the UAE on Sunday will be fair in general and partly cloudy at times over some areas, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

Humidity will increase at night and on Monday early morning - with a probability of fog or mist formation over some northern coastal areas.

The NCM has also urged motorists to take all precautions against potential fog formations. In a statement, NCM said that poor visibility is expected at times over some internal and coastal areas, especially the central and western parts of the country.

"The weather will be fair to partly cloudy, with a probability of clouds formation over some eastern areas by afternoon," the National Center of Meteorology," NCM said.

An increase in temperatures is expected today. The maximum temperature during the day is expected to hover around 42 - 48C along internal areas, 40 - 45C along the coast and 34 - 38C in the mountains.
The maximum humidity would be 70 to 90 per cent across coastal, 66 to 85 per cent in interior regions and between 40 to 60 per cent in the mountains.


Winds reaching speeds of 38kmph are also likely in some areas.
The sea will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in the Oman Sea.

Stay safe from the summer heat

With the mercury hovering over 45C, the risk of developing a heatstroke increases substantially, especially, if care is not taken. Heatstroke is caused when the body overheats. It can turn fatal as it can damage the brain, heart, kidneys and muscles, and hence care should be taken whilst venturing out in the heat.

The Dubai Health Authority and Dubai Municipality urged people to be mindful of the hot weather and issued guidelines and awareness to avoid suffering a heatstroke.

The Dubai Municipality tweeted that people are advised to avoid direct exposure to sunlight during midday and issued guidelines to avoid heatstroke.

While the DHA tweeted that children, elderly and outside workers are more at risk to suffer a heatstroke, and people should pay heed to heatstroke symptoms.

How to avoid heatstroke

1. Regularly drink water to avoid dehydration.

2. Don't overwork if the temperature is high.

3. Make sure to moisturize and cool your body and be fully aware of emergency procedures.

4. Practice healthy eating habits that reduce stress.

5. Use sunscreen to avoid skin damage and heat stress.

6. Wear loose-fitting lightweight clothes.

7. Take frequent rest in the shade.

8. Avoid going out in the hottest part of the day. 9. Never leave someone in a car, especially children.
