Jordan- Terrorism remains a security and ideological threat, says FM

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, June 4 (Petra)-Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, on Thursday, said terrorism is still a security and ideological threat, as ending the conflicts, environments of chaos and despair are required to defeat this scourge, simultaneous with the continued concerted international alliance against the terrorist group, ISIS, which has made great achievements in the war on terrorism.
In an intervention in the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS's Small Group, held through teleconferencing, he said: "The international coalition, led effectively by the United States, has made great achievements in defeating ISIS."
Continuing: "As a result of the coalition's efforts and the many sacrifices, especially Iraq's, the state of terrorism was defeated."
However, he said the ideological and security threat of terrorism remains "great," which requires strengthening the international coalition against ISIS and ensuring its cohesion.
Terrorism "is spreading in environments of chaos and crises, and is thriving on conflict and loss of hope," he pointed out.
This is a call aimed to reaching "political solutions to the crises in Syria, Libya, Yemen and other conflict areas," he affirmed, adding Iraq should be supported, whose new government continues its efforts to defeat terrorism and rebuild what the terrorists have destroyed.
"The fight against terrorism also calls for immediate and intensive action to prevent the implementation of the Israeli decision to annex a third of occupied Palestine, and what the implementation of the resolution will cause of conflict, chaos, and loss of hope, and focus on launching negotiations aimed at reaching a negotiated solution," Safadi said.
On Jordan's role, he said Amman will remain committed to working with the coalition to combat and defeat terrorism, adding: "The Kingdom will continue to work with partners, to achieve a just, lasting and comprehensive peace on the basis of a two-state solution and international law.
Safadi also noted:" This just peace is a right for all the peoples of the region, the basis for regional stability and a pillar for international security."
29 countries participated in the ministerial meeting, chaired by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
