India permits onion exports starting March 15

Officials said on Tuesday that the Indian government is going to permit the exporting of Onions starting from the 15th of March.

The federal ministry of commerce and industry made the decision in order to support farmers, onions export is banned in India for now.

A government order read that "Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Department of Commerce has issued a notification in this regard. The notification says that onions, which were in the prohibited category as per the present policy, will be under the category free in the revised policy".

Adding that "The effect of the notification will be that the export of all varieties of onions has been made free without any condition of Letter Of Credit and Minimum Export Price, with effect from 15th March 2020".

Piyush Goyal, federal commerce and industry minister of India, said that allowing onion exports was a step in supporting the farmers, he said that "This decision will help in increasing the income of farmers".
