(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Sheikh Faisal bin Hamad bin Jassim al-Thani's Topsy Turvy won the Al Wajba Cup at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club's Al Rayyan Park to cap a fantastic day in the office for trainer Ibrahim al-Malki, who saddled four winners yesterday.
The dirt feature victory for the gelding was the second on the day for the owner-trainer-jockey combine with Tomas Lukasek also riding Fuwairat to a Graduation Plate victory earlier in the day.
Mohamed Abdulla Abdulmalik's Sea The Light was a maiden winner for the Qatari trainer, while Al Bida Racing's Cool Exhibit topped a novice event under Leo Salles.
In the finale yesterday, Lukasek guided Topsy Turvy to a fine victory in the 1900m feature with a little more than two lengths to spare.
In the penultimate race of the day, a Thoroughbred Handicap run for horses rated 80 and below, Zarandi registered his second straight victory in Qatar. Carlos Henrique, riding Hamad Ahmed al-Malki al-Jehani-schooled colt in the colours of Saeed Nasser al-Qadi, was in the four-year-old's saddle for all of the horse's three victories this season, and yesterday, the two won the six-furlong sprint by a length.
Qatari rider Meteb Ali al-Marri continued gaining valuable experience and adding victories to his tally yesterday. The apprentice rider rode his seventh winner of the season, which is more than his cumulative haul from three previous seasons, in the Thoroughbred Handicap event for horses rated 70 and below.
Yesterday, the rider was astride Dhafi Rashid al-Marri's Succeed And Excel, and a fantastic ride saw the jockey guide his nine-year-old mount to his seventh career victory. It was Mohamed Hussain-schooled gelding's first win in almost two years.
Earlier in the day, Al Majd Stud's Al Hindi and Khalifa bin Sheail al-Kuwari's Al Mujahaz were among the Thoroughbreds to shed their maiden status.
