Displaced Syrians from Idlib to Turkish border reached 312,000

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, Jan 13 (KUNA) -- The number of Syrian refugees who had moved from Idlib northwestern Syria toward the Turkish borders reached 312,000 since last December, said Turkish Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu Monday.
In a press conference, Soylu said that women and children make up 75 percent of the displaced near border areas because of clashes in Idlib.
In a step to help accommodating the displaced Syrians, the Turkish charitable organizations and institutions have established nine camps in addition to sending relief supplies to those in need in Idlib, Anadolu Agency (AA) quoted Soylu as saying.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed in a meeting held on Wednesday with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin the need for calm in Idlib by implementing all the provisions of the agreements related to them and signed between the two countries in September 2018.
On December 20, 2019, Syrian army took control of 40 residential areas during a military operation in the cities of Maarat Anouman, al-Saraqib and the surrounding areas of Idlib, despite the inclusion of them as tension reduction areas agreed upon by Turkey and Russia. (end)
