Tribal violence kills 48 people in W. Sudan - Red Crescent


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KHARTOUM, Jan 2 (KUNA) -- At least 48 people were killed and more than 200 others wounded in tribal fighting in Sudan's western strife-torn Darfur, Sudanese Red Crescent said on Thursday.
The armed clashes broke out on Sunday night in Al-Geneina, capital of West Darfur state, and ran until Monday, leaving at least 48 dead and 241 others injured, including 19 in critical condition, it said in a statement.
The injured people were flown to Khartoum for necessary medical treatment, it added.
The Khartoum government on Monday imposed a curfew across West Darfur, and has launched an investigation into tribal violence. (end)
