Sri Lanka- Rupavahini Corporation brought under Defence Ministry
(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) State television, Rupavahini Corporation, has been brought under the Ministry of Defence.
A gazette notification has been issued bringing the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) under the purview of the Ministry of Defence which is headed by President Maithripala Sirisena.
The move comes as the Elections Commission prepares to call for Presidential elections.
Rupavahini Corporation was earlier under the Ministry of Mass Media which comes under Non Cabinet Minister Ruwan Wijewardene.
Wijewardene tweeted after the Ministry of Defence took over Rupavahini saying SLRC was operating at a loss and through the Treasury, tax payers had been funding SLRC's salary bill of Rs 40m per month.
He said that for months he has been trying to change the management but was obstructed by the President.
