Kuwait- Putin commends opening of Mosque in Shali city, Chechnya


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) SHALI, The Chechen Republic, Aug 23 (KUNA) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin commended on Friday the opening of a mosque in the city of Shali, Chechen Republic, saying that the event was of great importance to the region and the Chechen Republic.
In a written statement delivered by a representative from the Russian presidency during the opening, Putin said that the mosque would help the youth to maintain Islamic values and perpetuate social solidarity.
On his part, President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov revealed that the mosque -- named after the Prophet Mohammad peace and blessing be upon him -- was one of the grandest mosques in the region.
An Uzbek architect designed the 9,700 square meters religious facility, said Kadyrov, adding that the mosque has a capacity to host 20,000 people within its main facility and 100,000 worshipers in the outer courts.
Adjacent to the mosque are various buildings and facilities constructed on an area of 15,000 square meters.
Representative of the State of Kuwait,Kuwaiti Amiri Diwan Advisor and Chairman of the International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) Dr. Abdullah Al-Maatouq Dr. Abdullah Al-Maatouq is present at the opening ceremony. (end)
