Jordan- Measures taken to speed up reducing drug prices, says JFDA director


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, June 22 (Petra)-Director General of the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA), Dr. Hayel Obeidat, said the reduction of medications prices speedily is a step in favor of the citizen, adding the drug institution will not hesitate to apply the law against violators.
Speaking at a symposium hosted by "Petra," Obeidat said the JFDA acts as a monitoring body andprotects drug test data when submitting registration to preserve the information confidentiality, as an effort for the companies' owners.
"There is no monopoly of medicines in the Kingdom," he affirmed, adding the periodic review of the drug prices aims to provide "a fair and appropriate" price to the Jordanian citizen.
During the symposium, he noted the JFDA is responsible for setting the drug prices, and works on a periodic review to reach "the cheapest," adding this process involves comparing price tags of drug manufacturers with their counterparts in 16 nations, or countries of origin.
