Italy Gov't allocates USD 1.6 bLn for military missions


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ROME, May 31 (KUNA) -- The Italian government approved financial allocations Friday totaling 1.6 billion dollars to fund its military missions in regional and international arenas around the world.
The Italian government referred to the Joint Foreign and Defense Committee of the House of Representatives and the Senate a decree on "extension of Italian military missions abroad," which was delivered by Italian Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanese and Defense Elisabetta Trenta.
The decree included total expenditure of EURO 1.4 billion (USD 1.59 billion dollars) to finance "military missions and cooperation interventions, which saw the total number of Italian soldiers in the theaters of operations reach 7343 soldiers, a decline of 624 soldiers from the previous period.
Under the decree, 15 soldiers will be in a mission to Tunisia, out of the 1,100 soldiers sent for anti-terrorism mission in Iraq, which has the largest share of expenditure of EURO 235 million (USD 263 million).
Italian troops in Afghanistan, with 800 soldiers, received EURO 159 million (USD 178 million dollars), while EURO 49 million (USD 55 million dollars) to fund 400 soldiers in a mission in Libya. (end)
