2 Islamists to be executed over murder in Bangladesh


(MENAFN) A prosecutor, two Islamists have been handed an execution sentence for the murder case of a Bangladesh university professor who was killed using a machete in 2016.

The murder was among series of attacks in the Muslim-majority country on secular activists, religious oppositions and foreigners accused of homegrown extremists by authorities.

An English literature professor and a local secular activist, was murdered close to his house in Rajshahi city.

Shariful Islam, a student from Siddique's department at Rajshahi University, whose still at large, was one of the two ruled to be hanged to death.
