Bus fire in China kills 26, injures 28

(MENAFN) Local authorities say 26 people have been killed and 28 injured after a tour bus set alight on a highway in central China's Hunan province.

According to the provincial spokesman's office, five of those injured were in critical condition.

The incident took place at around 7:15 p.m. (2215 AEDT) Friday along a stretch of Hanshou County in the city of Changde.

The bus had 53 passengers, a tour guide and two drivers, both of whom have been arrested as authorities investigate the cause of the accident.

Photos from the scene show the 59-seater bus's interior completely burnt, possibly indicating that it started with materials on board.
