Afghanistan: 39 militants die in army raids


(MENAFN) An army source revealed that up to 39 Taliban militants have died as 10 more were injured after mission in Afghanistan's northern turbulent Faryab and Kunduz provinces.

Hanif Rezai, spokesman of army Corps 209 Shaheen based in the region declared that the Afghan Air Force targted the militants' hideouts in Qaysar district of Faryab late on Sunday night, leaving up to 28 Taliban militants dead and injuring eight more.

The attack was a retaliatory sortie against a Taliban attack on security checkpoints in Qaysar on Saturday night that killed 21 army troopers and policemen and hurt 10 more.

The spokesman added that in Kunduz province, Afghan forces initiated a military mission in Aykhanum area of Chahar Dara district, killing 11 militants, injuring two and nabbed eight more including one of Taliban local commander called Mullah Mohammad Yousuf.
