Fiji: death toll of drunk driving surges in 2018


(MENAFN) Statistics from the Fiji Police Force revealed that 15 Fijians have been killed till now this year after driving while drunk, a surge in number compared to the past nine years.

As the island nation was in the festive season, driving under the effect of alcohol remained a huge concern for the Fiji Police Force.

Fiji Police Director for Traffic Mahesh Mishra confirmed that they have intensified their traffic operation for the festive season to guarantee the safety of everyone on the roads.

Mishra added: "Fifteen people have lost their lives through drink and drive, so these are the alarming statistics as far as life is being lost on our roads. This is just because the negligence and recklessness of driver behind the wheel."
