Arab coalition renews support to UN Special Envoy to Yemen


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) JEDDAH, Dec 10 (KUNA) -- The Arab Coalition supporting the Yemeni legitimate government renewed on Monday support to UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths and to his exerted efforts to ensure success to ongoing negotiations in Sweden.
"The coalition is making great efforts to create the right atmosphere and to provide all data needed to all Yemeni parties involved," Spokesman for the coalition Col. Turki Al-Malki said in a press conference.
Al-Malki added the coalition handed over to representatives of International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) 340 letters from detainees held by Houthi fighters for their families according to international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.
Al-Malki noted that the leadership of the joint forces also provided financial support to the legitimate Yemeni government to treat more than 21,000 soldiers from the Yemeni National Army, and prepared all means of treatment inside Yemen and abroad in cooperation with the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Action.
The spokesman added that the United Arab Emirates has announced the treatment of more than 124 Yemenis in Egypt.
Al-Malki said coalition forces have also recently announced working with the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Yemen to create safe humanitarian routes from Al-Hodeidah to Sanaa.
Al-Malki explained that the coalition' leadership have issued during the period from March 26th 2015 until today 35,413 permits to all types of relief outlets within Yemen, pointing out that the number of permits and orders to secure movements of relief organizations inside Yemen during the period from 3-10 December, reached 288 permits.
