The bland yet filling elements of Japanese fare have proved to be preferred choices of a huge chunk of food lovers worldwide. This is possibly due to the fact that this cuisine contains the least amount of spices and tries to retain the food's qualities and nutrients to the optimum level. So, like many other metropolitans of the world, Dhaka too is well stocked with quite a few Japanese restaurants. Pho 101 is the latest addition to this list. This is a restaurant with not only Japanese, but also Vietnamese cuisine. Although both are similar in a few ways, there are differences too in terms of taste and flavors. Pho 101 opened on July 30 this year. That was a soft opening and only last month the restaurant opened formally. The menu is a fabulous combination of Japanese and Vietnamese foods. In Vietnamese language, Pho means a kind of rice and noodles soup. Since Pho is a kind of Vietnamese staple, the Vietnamese segment of the menu mainly features different variations of Pho. So the popular choices among the Vietnamese foods are Beef Pho, Chicken Pho, and Seafood Pho. These can be coupled with different types of salads like Vietnamese Chicken Salad or Green Papaya Salad or Crab Cakes. For a Vietnamese main dish, the choices are mainly stir fried chicken/beef; noodle with creamy coconut sauce/ noodle topped with stir fried beef along with a choice of fried rice. The Japanese segment of the menu is a wide array of typical Japanese fares. Like Sushi, Sashimi, Sashimi Roll, Maki Roll, Temaki, Tempura, Teriyaki, Soba, Yakitori, Donburi, Gyoza, Jijimi, etc. there are Bento Boxes too, with around six different combinations. The Sweet and Sour preparations also have different basics like chicken and beef. Grills, soups and rice are the main accompaniments. Green Tea, Fresh Juice (Papaya, Pineapple, Orange), Lemon Iced Tea, Iced Coffee are some of the cool beverages in the menu. For desserts, there is an authentic Vietnamese one- Coconut Cream Milk Gelatin. Pho 101 is open for lunch (12 noon to 3pm) and dinner (5.30pm to 10.30 pm). It is a neatly done place, which can accommodate around 120 guests. Their backyard is a cozy open-air dining area, bordered with greeneries. There are 3 private rooms for small parties. Pho 101 is located in Road 101, Gulshan 1, complete with a large parking space, a pebbled backyard seating and authentic and taste fares of Japan and Vietnam.
