SUWANEE, Ga. - Nov. 11, 2018 - PRLog -- The Sugar Hill Choir of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints presents its 14th annual community Christmas concert. Themed Wishes and Candles, the performance will support the December launch of Light Up Gwinnett With Kindness initiative helping to celebrate the final weeks of the county's bicentennial.
The concert will be held Dec. 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church located at 4833 Suwanee Dam Road, adjacent to North Gwinnett High School. No ticket is necessary for the complimentary concert.
The musical performance, featuring a 71-voice choir and 20-piece orchestra, will include traditional as well as unfamiliar Christmas songs that promise to become new family favorites. The concert will be highlighted by a narrative that will bring to light the literary works of Washington Irving. He is credited with helping to bring the merry to Christmas by introducing many of the beloved traditions enjoyed today in the United States.
"We are pleased that so many from metro Atlanta have made it their tradition to attend our Christmas concert with many attendees going back 14 years with us," said Pamela Gates, director of the choir since it was formed in 2005. "We always want to send a powerful message of love and unity with our performances and know that this year's support of Light Up's efforts will take that to an even greater level."
The choir intentionally selected Wishes and Candles as their theme this year to support the new annual initiative, Light Up Gwinnett With Kindness. It is being launched in part to commemorate the final days of the county's yearlong bicentennial celebration.
"Light Up's mission to bring more kindness into our community, as Gwinnett moves into a new century, really resonated with our choir's own desires of using music to break down barriers and touch people's hearts in a way words can't," said Gates. "We hope guests leave uplifted and inspired to make a difference by supporting Light Up's goal of increasing acts of kindness during the month of December."
To help with the overall Light Up Georgia With Kindness initiative, lit Light Up bags will be given to concert attendees. They also will receive two additional bags and information to give to neighbors to help build awareness and work together to create an unbroken chain of luminaries in our community while Building Together the Pathway Lit by Kindness on Dec. 24.
Dec. 24 will culminate 24 days of people performing acts of kindness starting Dec. 1. The lighted bags will be the inspiring visual with hopes it will continue to grow each year, connecting communities throughout the state of Georgia. No matter when or where they give a concert, the all-volunteer choir always performs for free and draws members from Cobb, Dawson, Hall, Forsyth, Gwinnett and Walton Counties. Several accomplished musicians and community leaders participate with some traveling upwards of a three-hour roundtrip each week from cities such as Braselton, Buford, Coal Mountain, Cumming, Dacula, Dawsonville, Flowery Branch, Gainesville, Grayson, Hamilton Mill, Marietta, Lawrenceville, Lilburn, Loganville, Oakwood, Sugar Hill and Suwanee.
The choir's resume includes participating in several metro-Atlanta events including the Veteran's Day Celebration held at the Suwanee Town Center, Atlanta's Festival of Trees, Lighting of Gainesville, Gainesville's award-winning Multi-Cultural Concert, City of Lilburn's Veteran's Day Event, City of Norcross' July Patriotic Celebration, City of Suwanee's Memorial Day Weekend Concert, and City of Sugar Hill's Fall Festival and Lighting of the Christmas Tree.
