Oman- Asian Champions Trophy: Japan gets back to winning ways

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Asian Games gold medallist Japan bounced back from its opening match loss to Malaysia with a 2-0 victory over South Korea in the Asian Champions Trophy Muscat 2018 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Saturday.

Recovering from its 0-3 loss to Malaysia in the tournament opener on Thursday, Japan's goals came through a powerful penalty corner conversion by Shota Yamada in the 18th minute and an open field strike by Wataru Matsumoto in the 51st. Yamada was adjudged player of the match.

Siegfried Aikman, Japan's coach, said, 'We should have scored more goals. I know my boys can do it. We are stepping up all the time and kept playing an attacking game.'

'The youngsters may have made some errors in their enthusiasm, but they played an enterprising game, maintained focus and created chances.'

Japan now takes on defending champion India in Sunday's only game. The match begins at 9.10pm.
