ABU DHABI, 13th October, 2018 (WAM) -- Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Chairman of the General Authority for Sports, has urged various media outlets in the country to effectively contribute to mobilising resources and creating an ideal environment for ensuring a resounding success for AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019.

Al Rumaithi made the statements while chairing a sports media session organised by the General Authority for Sports yesterday at the Armed Forces Club, where he expressed appreciation for the significant role played by media outlets in reflecting the transformational development secured by the country across all fields and their eminent contribution to underpinning the sports scene.

He reaffirmed the importance of ensuring collective action and teamwork throughout the championship so that it'd become the best across the continent's history.

"The ultimate objective we are all working for is to invest in this grand event and relay to the outer world the values of tolerance and peace championed by the UAE and reflect the peaceful environment provided by the country's leadership to the various nationalities living on our soil," he noted.

The event will attest to the world-class infrastructure provided by the country, including modern transportation network and trailblazing tourism and sports facilities that are considered the best in the region, he added.

The meeting was attended by Marwan bin Ghalita, President of the UAE Football Association, Abdul Mohsen Al Dosari, Secretary-General at the General Authority for Sports, and Aref Hamad Al Awani, Tournament Director of the Local Organising Committee of AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 along with a number of top sports executives in the country and media representatives.

The 2019 AFC Asian Cup will be the 17th edition of the AFC Asian Cup, the quadrennial international men's football championship of Asia organised by the Asian Football Confederation. It will be held in the United Arab Emirates from 5 January to 1 February 2019.
