Afghanistan:3 policemen, 8 militants die in gunfights


(MENAFN) A provincial source declared that over three Afghan Border Police personnel and eight militants have died in battles in Afghanistan's northern province of Kunduz.

Gholam Hazrat Karimi, a press officer of army's Division 20 Pamir based in the northern region, confirmed: "Taliban militants stormed border security checkpoints in Surkh Betal locality of Qalay-i-Zal district last night. The clashes claimed the lives of three police officers and eight militants."

The district bordering Tajikistan has witnessed many gunfights between Taliban and security forces.

His announcement came after Sayyed Assadullah Sadat, an official from the provincial council stated the death of 14 border police and the injury of 13 more in the battles.
