Kuwait FM meets UN special envoy to Iraq


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Sept 24 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah met the United Nations' special representative and head of its mission to Iraq (UNAMI) Jan Kubis on the fringes of the United Nations General Assembly on Sunday.
During the talks, held at the Kuwaiti mission in New York, the UN special envoy reviewed the latest developments on UNAMI's efforts regarding the search for missing Kuwaiti persons and lost Kuwaiti property and national archive documents. These endeavours included meetings with Iraqi officials.
Kuwait's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister reiterated the significance Kuwait attaches to these efforts.
The UN mission has been tasked with compiling annual reports on the matter and encouraging the Iraqi government to double their efforts on this crucial humanitarian issue, he said.
Assistant Foreign Minister for the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister's Office Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, Assistant Foreign Minister for Gulf Cooperation Council Affairs Nasser Al-Mezayyin, Kuwait's Permanent UN Representative Mansour Al-Otaibi and Assistant Foreign Minister for International Organisations and Minister Plenipotentiary Nasser Al-Hain also attended the discussions.
