The meeting was chaired by the Qatar Football Association (QFA) chairman and chief of AGCFF Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani.

The committee also approved the continuation of Sheikh Hamad al Thani as the AGCFF chairman for a period of another two years.

The Gulf Cup is the region's showpiece football tournament and has attracted a large fans' following since it was first held in Bahrain in 1970.

The tournament comprises eight teams - Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Oman, Iraq and Yemen.

Qatar has previously hosted the prestigious event in 1976, 1992 and 2004 and emerged champions on three occasions.
