Two Russian navy ships pass through Dardanelles

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) (With POL-RUSSIA-SYRIA-DEFENSE) ANKARA, Aug 25 (KUNA) -- Two Russian frigates passed through the Dardanelles Straits, northwest Turkey, heading for the Aegean Sea on Saturday.
Admiral Grigorovich and Admiral Essen frigates of the Russian Black Sea Fleet passed through the waterway at 4:00 pm., Turkey's Anadolu Agency (AA) reported citing Turkish security sources.
They were escorted by Turkish coast guard vessels, the sources said without elaborating on the destination of the two frigates.
Earlier today, Russia Ministry of Defense expressed dismay after the United States deployed the destroyer USS The Sullivans to the Arabian Gulf a few days ago apparently as a prelude to a missile attack on Syria.
The Ministry accused the United States, the United Kingdom and France of preparing to carry out new strikes against Syria under the pretext of chemical weapons use by Syrian government forces. The US, UK and France coordinated a massive airstrike on Syria in April 2018 after the alleged use of chemical weapons in Douma city, located nearly 10 km. to the northeast of Damascus. (end) rs.gb
