Iraq: 3 IS militant die in clashes with paramilitary Sunni fighters


(MENAFN) Three Islamic State (IS) militants have died as another three were arrested after the Iraqi paramilitary Sunni tribal fighters fought back an IS attack close to a town in Iraq's central province of Salahudin.

Hmoud al-Shimmary, the head of a paramilitary brigade declared that members of the Sunni battled with IS militants who attempted to ambush the town of Tlul al-Baj in the northern part of Salahudin province, shooting three militants dead, and detaining three more, while others escaped the spot in two vehicles to the nearby desert.

He added that the arrested were questioned and admitted captivating some Sunni Shimmar tribesmen and killing them.

Two of the tribal members were wounded as well in the battle, according to Al-Shimmary.
