Trend:

The representatives of France, Germany and Great Britain reconciled with the US authorities the conditions under which US President Donald Trump will agree to extend Washington's participation in the Joint comprehensive plan of action (JCPOA) on Iran's nuclear program.

This, was published overnight into April 24 in the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, citing diplomatic sources, TASS reported.

"After five rounds of talks, the European and American parties agreed that Iran should be threatened with new sanctions because of its contradictory missile tests and aggressive regional policy. The agreement on the nuclear deal should remain the same, but some of its paragraphs will be interpreted in a new way," the newspaper writes.

The agreement reached between the countries consists of four items: the date of expiry of the nuclear deal, the limits of authority of the inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran's missile program, as well as zones of influence of Tehran in Yemen, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. The agreement emphasizes that even after expiry of validity of the JCPOA, Iran will have to abandon the development of its nuclear program.

As noted by Süddeutsche Zeitung, negotiations between Western countries have not yet been completed, but the European partners have agreed that they will not follow the US if Trump decides to withdraw from the nuclear deal.

In July 2015, Iran, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (Russia, Great Britain, China, USA, and France) and Germany reached an agreement on the settlement of Tehran's nuclear issue. The JCPOA developed by them provides for the lifting of the UN and EU sanctions imposed on Iran because of its nuclear program, in exchange for Tehran's obligations to limit nuclear activities and put it under international control. In January 2016, the beginning of implementation of the transaction was announced, and Washington canceled the restrictions.

Trump has repeatedly called the deal with Iran harmful, arguing that it did not prevent Iran from creating nuclear weapons, but only delayed it. In January of this year, the US President said that the United States will cease to participate in the agreement, unless the amendments developed in negotiations with European countries, are not inserted in it.
