Jordan- Civilians used as 'human shields' in Syria's Afrin, says UN

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) New York, March 16 (Petra)-- The United Nations said Friday there were "alarming reports" that Kurdish forces are blocking civilians from leaving the Syrian enclave of Afrin faced with a looming siege, and could be using them as "human shields." UN Human Rights Office Spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani decried "reports that civilians are being prevented from leaving Afrin city by Kurdish forces and are being held to be used as human shields." She said her office had been informed that "only those civilians who have contacts within the Kurdish authority or the Kurdish armed forces have been able to leave."
