Petition asking Snapchat to reverse its redesign crosses million signatures

A petition that is rooting for Snapchat to reverse its recently rolled out redesign has crossed one million signatures.
The petition, titled 'Remove the New Snapchat Update,' on Change.org is urging Snapchat's parent company Snap to undo a major design update on the app.
This is a classic case of changes on popular social media apps being received with resistance.

Australian user Nic Rumsey, who started the petition, said that instead of simplifying the platform, the update "has made many features more difficult" to use.
The petition states that, "many new features are useless or defeat the original purposes Snapchat has had for the past years," and aims to "convince Snap to change the app back to the basics, before the new 2018 update."

However, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel seemed unfazed as he said during the company's full-year earnings call that the aim of the redesign was to make the app "simpler and easier to use, especially for older users."
"While we are still very early in the roll-out, we are optimistic about the potential to unlock additional growth with the redesign of our application," he added.
Snapchat to soon make the redesign globally available

Snap has slowly rolled out the redesign over the past few weeks and will make it globally available in Q1. The company said that "big updates can take a little getting used to, but we hope the community will enjoy it once they settle in."
