Jordan calls for revising effective EU rules of origin

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Jan. 15 (Petra) -- Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Imad Fakhoury, on Monday urged Poland, an EU member state, to cooperate with Jordan to further relax a former EU decision in place on rules of origin, in a bid to facilitate the flow of local industrial goods into the bloc, to lure investments to the key sector and to create job opportunities.

During a meeting with visiting Polish Minister for Humanitarian Aid, Beata Kempa, the minister highlighted economic woes the Kingdom is battling, triggered by the Mideast volatilities and the grave repercussions of the Syrian refugee crisis.

The government, Fakhoury said, will officially launch the 2018-2020 Jordan Response Platform to the Syria Crisis.

Jordan, he stated, hosts a huge number of Syrian refugees, a situation that has a tremendous impact on the state budget and the refugee-hosting communities, and underscored the importance of sustained relevant global aid to the Kingdom to address financial refugee-driven burdens.

The Polish official, for his part, lauded Amman's efforts to host an influx of Syrian newcomers, and the King's unwavering efforts to achieve peace and security in the region.

Kempa also highlighted the robust bilateral ties, and voiced her country's firm commitment to support Jordan tackle its economic concerns.
