OIC chief slams incendiary Trump decision on Jerusalem

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISTANBUL, Dec 13 (KUNA) -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) rejects US President Donald Trump's inflammatory decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, its secretary General Yousef Al-Othaimeen said Wednesday.

"It is imperative that we support the Arab identity and take a stand against Israel's efforts to tamper with the status quo in Jerusalem," Al-Othaimeen told an urgent OIC summit in Istanbul.

Echoing the OIC chief's sentiments, Jordanian King Abdullah II said that "any attempt to alter conditions in Jerusalem would result in unadulterated violence." In a speech of his own, the Jordanian monarch stressed that the "US decision threatens peace in the region." Meanwhile, the summit's communique is highly expected to urge the international community to recognize East Jerusalem as the capital of an independent Palestinian state. (pickup previous) to.nam
