Qatar condemns accusations made by Saudi and Bahrain

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar has denounced accusations of supporting terrorism levelled by Saudi Arabia and Bahrain at the United Nations General Assembly, stressing that Doha has made substantial efforts in combating the phenomenon and that the accusations came in the context of a desperate campaign of distortion.
The Qatari mission to the United Nations, in a statement read by the second secretary of the mission, Talal Rashid al- Khalifa, during the General Assembly meetings in New York, expressed surprise that Saudi Arabia and Bahrain accused
Qatar of supporting terrorism.
In response to statements of the Saudi and Bahraini missions, al- Khalifa said that Qatar's record at all levels - including counterterrorism - surpassed that of the countries that had accused Doha of terrorism, and that any claims of a link between Qatar and terrorism were false and unfounded and came in the context of the biased
campaign targeting Doha.
Al-Khalifa added that the campaign began with the terrorist cyber attack on Qatar News Agency, and proceeded to blackmail some countries to take the same measures against Qatar, and the exploitation of religious platforms to legitimise the unjust and illegal siege.
The Qatari mission noted that Qatar has spared no effort to support international counter-terrorism measures. Qatar is a key member of all international alliances, groups and initiatives to combat terrorism, including the International Counter-Terrorism Coalition and the International Counter-Terrorism Forum.
Qatar not only participated in the Riyadh summit between the Islamic countries and the United States, but was the first country to sign a memorandum of understanding with the United States to co-operate in the fight against terrorism and to prevent its financing. Al-Khalifa reiterated the call for the countries that accused Qatar of supporting terrorism to sign similar agreements in the fight against terrorism.
'The efforts of Qatar included the full and comprehensive implementation of the resolutions of international legitimacy represented by the UN Security Council. These efforts have been praised by various international reports which emphasise the role of Qatar in supporting the efforts of the United Nations to sustain peace, enhance the development potentials of States and provide humanitarian assistance in the interest of achieving stability and avoiding conditions conducive to the spread of extremism and
terrorism.
The Qatari delegation said that the countries blockading Qatar have reached a stage of desperation where they are paying for commercials to discredit the State of Qatar and the repeated accusations at the United Nations were in the same context.
