Lakki district councilors seek action against cement plants causing pollution
LAKKI MARWAT, August 21:District councilors of Lakki district on Monday demanded action against cement plants that are causing pollution and asked Lakki Cement Factory's management to avoid setting up substandard cement plants in the district.
The demand was made at a meeting here with local elders where district councilor Asif Iqbal advocate said that the factory's management has installed Chinese plants.
The elders complained that the plants were of inferior standard due to which dust pollution has increased tremendously in surrounding areas.
The participant said that hundreds of people have been suffering from different kinds of respiratory and skin diseases while it also affected crops production.
They said that it has affected tourist spot Sheikh Badeen where tourists would come from surrounding district.
The councilors said that the factory was planning to install the fifth plant and urged that government not to issue no objection certificate unless they take proper steps to avoid environmental pollution.
