India approves new contract on maritime security with Mauritius


(MENAFN) India and Mauritius posted that they have agreed a new deal for maritime security as New Delhi has increased a USD500mn credit line to the Indian Ocean island nation.

According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, "As frontline states of the Indian Ocean, Prime Minister Jugnauth and I agree that it is our responsibility to ensure collective maritime security around our coasts and in our EEZs (exclusive economic zones)".

Moreover, "We agree that effective management of conventional and non-conventional threats in the Indian Ocean is essential to pursue economic opportunities, protect the livelihood of our communities and provide security to our people," the PM also revealed.

Never the less, Modi said "The conclusion of the bilateral Maritime Security Agreement today will strengthen our mutual co-operation and capacities".
