Amman, March 30 (Petra)--Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Atef Tarawneh reiterated the centrality of the Palestinian cause as well as the importance of establishing an independent Palestinian state on the basis of the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative and international legitimacy resolutions.

At a meeting with Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the French National Assembly Elizabeth Guigou, Tarawneh said that the two-state solution is a Jordanian, Palestinian, Arab and international demand. "Failure to achieve a just solution to the Palestinian issue, will increase tension and instability in the region and the world," he added.

Tarawneh reviewed the situation in the region, the issue of refugees and the war on terrorism, and their repercussions on Jordan in the economic, political, social and security domains.

He said Jordan has long been at the forefront of fighting terrorism, calling for concerted international efforts to eradicate this phenomenon.

During the meeting, the House speaker also discussed with the French official the situation in the region, and highlighted the need to boost cooperation and coordination between Jordanian and French parliamentarians to further enhance bilateral ties.

Guigou highlighted the strong ties between Jordan and France which have been progressing over the past few years.

She voiced hope that the Brussels Conference will provide an opportunity to increase support to the Kingdom to enable it to continue its services to the refugees.
